Tale of a Tooth

I do not floss, I am going to start with this. I am not ashamed, I do not hide that fact from anyone, I do not floss unless I feel its necessary. However, I do generally take care of my teeth, they are nice and typically strong and healthy. However, after the pregnancy I went to the dentist to find out I had 4 cavities and a hole in one of my teeth. I knew the hole was there, it wasn’t hurting me but of course when you have a hole you spend every waking minute of your day playing with it with your tongue (or maybe that’s just me). Anyway, they couldn’t fix it that day but since I had some other areas that needed filling they scheduled a new appointment. They specifically asked if I wanted to split up the appointments (as 1 was on the top right and 2 on the bottom left) but I figured that I hate fillings so might as well do it all together.

Three weeks later I am sitting at work complaining about how I really didn’t want to go to the dentist for the fillings and was seriously thinking of calling to postpone. It was my day off plus Logan had his 4 month check-up and it was going to be busy. Well, about 30 minutes later my phone rings and it’s the dentist asking if they can postpone. I of course agree (even though the stupid chip was really getting annoying) and schedule it for the next week.

So I finally head to the dentist, I sit down and he says “are you ready for a filling”, Im thinking to myself, well, Im ready for 3 fillings, but whatever. So he starts on the top right where there was just a very small cavity and as he is there he finds another and does it at the same time (fine by me). Then he says we are all done. With my numb mouth I ask what about the other side (the one with the freakin hole) and he says we will have to reschedule. I was pretty annoyed but at that point I couldn’t do anything, so I head to the desk to check out and pay my annual deductible and co-payment. I get to the desk to find out the earliest they can get me in is in another 4 weeks!!! Again, it wasn’t hurting me and they said they couldn’t get me in earlier (I asked about 10 times) so I pack up and head out to enjoy the rest of my day off.

Come about 1 week later I find out that the rumors were true and our hotel was going to be getting a new management company. We had heard rumors and knew something was in the works but it wasn’t confirmed. They tell us it will be official November 1st and at that point we will be getting all new benefits since it’s a new company. I start to panic a little, I had just paid a $50 deducitble and if I couldn’t get back in by 10/31 I was going to have to pay it again. So I get back to my desk and instantly call the dentist. I explain the situation but they say they have no new openings. I put my name on the cancellation list and say I will be calling back again to check.

Days pass, Weeks pass, no good news from the dentist. I think they got sick of me calling so they finally call me and say that really since it wasn’t my fault and kinda their fault (for not doing them all at the same time like they were supposed to) and really overall just bad timing, that if I do have to re-pay the deducitible they would take care of it and I wouldn’t have to pay the charge. So with a little over a week to go I am finally feeling good about the whole thing.

Then of course when I am in the final week, the tooth starts hurting!!! Its was throbbing and food was getting stuck, and the hole kept getting bigger and I just wanted it to be fixed!!! So I went this morning and 1 hour and 15 minutes later my tooth no longer has a hole in it.

Wow, if you guys made it through this post I am uber impressed :)
